Breast Reduction - Anastacia's story Although there are women who occasionally opt for cosmetic procedures such as breast reconstructive surgery after overcoming breast cancer, most breast enhancement ops are done for purely aesthetic reasons. This was the case for singer Anastacia who went for a breast reduction because she felt her breasts were too large for her frame. Breast Reduction Revealed Cancer
The singer discovered she has breast cancer after she had decided to have a breast reduction procedure. And if she hadn't had the breast reduction, there's a strong risk she would never have discovered she had cancer. She said because of the kind of cancer it was, it didn't manifest itself in a mass that could be discovered by a routine examination. Instead, Anastacia told the Glasgow Sunday Mail that the cancer was more like 'salt sprinkles': “It's what's called calcification and the ironic part is that it was found by an X-ray which I would never have gotten done if I wasn't getting a reduction because I was too young.” The breast reduction meant the cancer was caught in time and the singer is now free of the disease after recently celebrating her 40th birthday.
Breast Reduction – In the Family
The singer told the press that breast reduction was something that was 'in the family' as her mother also had a breast reduction. She felt her body needed to be more proportional, as she and her mother have small frames with 'fairly big boobs'. Anastacia now tries to raise awareness about the need to be vigilant for cancer, no matter what your age. Women under the age of 40 aren't encouraged to get checked out for breast cancer. And the fact that the singer's cancer was only uncovered after coming forward for a breast reduction proves that more women need to be pro-active about their health. As Anastacia says, not getting regular checks could be 'utter suicide'. Breast reduction is an increasingly sought after operation for women who want to improve their body image and posture.
